Ten Yards of Love with Christie Burns

It’s that time of year again. The beginnin of another LFL season is in preparation right now. Mini camps, tryouts, workouts, it’s all going on as the league looks forward to an encore perfomance that will blow last season away. Two new teams (Baltimore Charm and Orlando Fantasy) have joined the league and this year’s Lingerie Bowl will be played in America’s playground, Las Vegas! Today I get to chat with one of the league’s stars, Christie Burns of the San Diego Seduction. Enjoy the read and the pics :-D

18065_10150091920915585_579620584_11278979_4541254_n

Matt Field – Thanks Christie for taking time out of your schedule to chat with us. How are things going? What keeps you busy?

Christie Burns – Things are going great. Right now I am working full-time and preparing for the upcoming season. We will be physically, mentally and emotionally ready. I am also training for the All-Fantasy game in Mexico. I am looking forward to showcasing my skills come June.

 6450_283344510584_579620584_8764838_6417202_n

Matt- Congrats again on your spot with the All-Fantasy team. What did you learn from your first season with the Seduction?

Christie- There is no easy way to explain what we went through as a team and as individuals this past season. There were so many things that pulled us apart as a team, and more importantly there were even more things that pulled us together. We have learned how it feels to lose, repeatedly, to be told we’re the worst, continuously, and to let down our fans, and each other, over and over again. My teammates and I are ready now more than ever put up some extremely tough competition for our opponents. Our “0-3″ record does not define who we are as a team, but shows how eager and ravenous we are for a championship this upcoming season. Just because we haven’t endured triumph yet doesn’t mean we aren’t capable of it.

29591_10150197499920585_579620584_12395258_3590265_n

Matt- What are you looking forward to this coming season?

Christie- I am looking forward to walking away from a game with my team, win or lose, knowing that we put up our best fight possible. I’m definitely looking forward to establishing closer relationships with my teammates and allowing the strength and power of those relationships to become a force to be reckoned with on the field. I’m looking forward to our new coaching system and getting some fresh new talent on our team. Watch out for San Diego! We are hungry for a win!

6410_247082395584_579620584_7868651_352464_n

Matt- What first sparked your interest in the LFL?

Christie- I have always loved football. Women haven’t been given much of an opportunity to play full tackle football because of the risk of injury and how physically demanding the sport is. So when I heard about the LFL, I jumped on it. I went to the tryout in 2008, along with about 200 other women. I made the top 12 and now, having been on the team for almost two years, I have so much appreciation for the league and the women in it. It’s not just about being beautiful, but you HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PLAY BALL. If you think you can just come out here and run around looking pretty, you’re in for a rude awakening. The women in this league have a lot to prove with the connotations that come along with the LFL.

15131_374894370584_579620584_10207236_4319568_n

Matt- Ok, let’s just get this one out of the way to avoid a flood of emails. Are on or off the market at this time?

Christie- I am happily off the market. Sorry boys :-)

28963_10150199823000585_579620584_12442633_4622291_n

Matt- Is there anything you want to say to the fans that may have expected more from the Seduction last season?

Christie- All I can say is we know how it feels to lose, and lose, and then lose again. LAwas a heartbreak and a half for the remaining girls on my team. We’ve been to adark place together and we don’t plan on going back. 53-0 was ultimately themost gut wrenching way to end an already difficult season for us. It takes thatkind of low to know that you don’t ever want to experience that again. We willcome back swinging with full force to ensure our fans and each other success. We owe it to everyone and ourselves!

Danielle Moinet- The first regular season of the LFL was more than I ever expected! We put in so much work the year before and it was worth every minute of it when we stepped foot on opening day September 4th. Hearing the crowd of thousands cheer our name gave me goosebumps. Matt- How have you been preparing for the playoffs?

Danielle- I’ve been in the gym 5 days a week on top of our three days a week practice. I’ve stepped up my cardio and also studying film! I can’t wait to get down to Miami!

Matt- What have you been doing in your downtime?

Danielle- Haha…downtime? I wasnt aware that I had downtime!

Matt- You have played a big part in the team’s success this year, what do you bring to the game that helps the team win?

Danielle- The great thing about this Chicago team is that each girl has evolved during the season and each teammate is a huge part of our success! I bring to every game my positive attitude, encouragement, and leadership. I want to bring the best out of every one of my teammates so we can perform to our highest ability every friday night we play!

Matt- Strangest event/fan/comment from any of the games or events?

Danielle- We had three fans at our last game who came all the way from Japan! I was extremely flattered that they came all that way to see us play!

Matt- Your Super Bowl pick?

Danielle- Saints all the way! Who Dat?!

Matt- And of course, who will win Lingerie Bowl VII?

Danielle- Not even a doubt in my mind…The Chicago Bliss takes it all! See ya’ll on Saturday!

LFL: The man behind the curtain, Mitch Mortaza

Posted by Matt Field | Posted in Lingerie Football League | Posted on 01-19-2010

The wheel? Already been done. Sliced bread? Yeah, it’s great, but it’s bread. Sending man to the moon? Old news. Lingerie Football League? Hell yes! Now that is a great idea! Enter, Mitch Mortaza.

fantasybox_21

I had a chance to chat with the man that set the whole thing in motion. I wanted to get to this interview much sooner, but as Mitch agreed, this league is about the players, coaches and the many people behind the scenes. Now that we have a handful of games under our belt, Mitch Mortaza has taken some time to share with LFLUnlaced.com. Enjoy the read boys and girls.

Matt Field- Mitch, thanks again for the time. Now I know that you have been asked this many times, but how did Lingerie Football come to be?

Mitch Mortaza- I was in San Diego many years ago when Qualcomm Stadium hosted the Bucs vs. Raiders Super Bowl with an incredible halftime lineup of Gwen Stefani and Sting. Even though there were great musical performances at halftime, there seemed to be a mass exodus of people at halftime leaving their very expensive seats within the stadium. On the drive back to Los Angeles, I thought that if that many people were visibly leaving their expensive seats at the stadium at halftime, what was happening all across the country at halftime? Obviously, those people were also leaving their TV sets. Now how can we capture this audience that is leaving their TV sets on television’s biggest viewing day? That is how the Lingerie Bowl was born.Because of the viewership and commercial success’ of the previous Lingerie Bowls, we thought we should consider launching more of a year-round model giving fans their own team in these passionate football markets. Imagine the NFL if it merely hosted the Super Bowl, it certainly would not be the NFL.

We have developed a league that fans can now follow from off-season Mini-Camps and Training Camps to a 20 week Regular Season to the Playoffs and through the annual Lingerie Bowl.

Did I mention an all-star game which is called the LFL All-Fantasy Game which will be held at an international destination.

Matt- How/when did things begin to fall into place?

Mitch- Honestly, it has been the overwhelming demand from fans all across the country and the desire of thousands of women that wanted the opportunity to play football.

Matt- For the fans that are not familiar with Mitchell Motaza, share a little about your background and experience.

Mitch- Personally, I have always been driven by sports and the business world. I thrive on challenges and what could be more challenging then launching a women’s tackle football league in the midst of the country’s worst recession since the Great Depression.

The LFL is truly a dream come true bringing an idea in my head many years ago to life at major arenas and stadiums and having the idea validated by thousands of fans weekly. One of the most special moments in my life was Opening Night of the LFL and making my way down from the executive suite to the field and seeing the thousands of fans wearing LFL gear and being vocal about their Chicago Bliss after their big win. The LFL went from a distant dream to an incredible reality, truly a special moment that made be feel very alive.

Matt- I have been asking many of the players this question. Why should fans embrace the Lingerie Football League?

Mitch- Fans love not only LFL football but the entire atmosphere of LFL, Friday Night Football. We have truly created an incredible atmosphere of football meets the Friday night culture of friends and good times. This league is about the fan and for the fan.

Matt- The fans have been great so far and expectations are certainly being met in all aspects of the game. What are your expectations of the players, coaches and league personnel?

Mitch- Our expectations of the league staff, players and coaches are consistent with each of their expectations of themselves, nothing but incredible effort and determination. This league is already under great scrutiny and we will only survive if we act as a family and continuously push ourselves to give our fans the ultimate product and experience.

I personally could not be more proud of the hundreds of people that work day in and day out in making this league a reality. Many of whom are completely unknown yet make the biggest impact on the league.

Matt- We are only five games into the first full season of Lingerie Football and it has been an amazing and alluring ride thus far. Where do you see the league in 5, 10, 20 years from today?

Mitch- Currently I am traveling to 3 expansion markets. Because of the immediate success of the LFL, we have already drawn interest from 6 potential expansion markets with great buildings and ownership groups. We are currently meeting with ownership groups in San Jose, Las Vegas, Houston, Nashville, Carolina and Buffalo. In 2012 we have licensed the league concept for a 5 team European league and in 2013 we will launch a 5 team Asian league.

By 2016, we expect to have a team in every NFL market, if your counting, that is 32 teams.

Matt- Looking forward to it all Mitch. Thanks again for the time and thank you for beautiful women playing some hard hitting football.

Mitch- My pleasure, Matt.

Joey Davenport’s NFL playoff picks Divisional Round

Posted by Matt Field | Posted in Lingerie Football League, NFL | Posted on 01-15-2010

After a tough wild-card weekend (1-3), Joey Davenport is ready for the games that count. What a great weekend of playoff football! Can the Cowboys stay hot? Will the Saints regain the swagger they had before dropping three straight to end the season? Are the Colts and Chargers destined for another post-season meeting? Are the Jets for real? Can’t wait for kickoff! Here are Joey’s picks for this weekends matchups. Enjoy!

n698560118_2064789_6479

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts

Colts – Expect the Ravens to flash that high-energy defense until the second half when the Colts start to pull away.

Arizona Cardinals @ New Orleans Saints

Saints – High scoring, action packed game. The Saints are well rested and ready to play like champs.

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers

Chargers – I will be at the game cheering on the Super Chargers! Rivers to Gates all game long!

Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings

Cowboys – Dallas has hit a stride and are playing their best ball of the season. The Vikings? Not quite sure which team will show up.

Joey Davenport’s Wild-Card picks

Posted by Matt Field | Posted in Lingerie Football League, NFL | Posted on 01-07-2010

The NFL playoffs are here folks! The very first weekend of action should not disappoint with great matchups and storylines. As the regulars know, I like to ask my friends from the Lingerie Football League to weigh in and share their thoughts on each weeks games. This week I invited Los Angeles Temptations’, Joey Davenport to drop some knowledge on us all. Enjoy the picks and enjoy the pics :-D

untitled

Wild-card weekend

Saturday January 9

New York Jet @ Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals – New York had a string of luck work their way to get into the playoffs. The Jets have a great defense, but I don’t trust that their offense run by a rookie QB will come through. I think Sanchez may impress, but is still capable of making a mistake or two that may cost them the game.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys – Back to back wins over a tough Philly team is a daunting task, but I think the Cowboys are out to prove a thing or two. Romo and team may have finally figured things out in Dallas.

Sunday January 10

Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots

Patriots – Betting against Brady at home during the playoffs is not wise, with or without Wes Welker. Baltimore won’t be able to keep pace.

Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals

Packers – I’m not a huge believer in the Packers away from Lambeau, but after last week’s win, although over Cards backups, I think Green Bay eeks out the win.

Lingerie Football Power Rankings

Posted by Matt Field | Posted in Lingerie Football League | Posted on 01-05-2010

1

With only a few weeks left until Lingerie Bowl VII, the ladies of the LFL are making a final push to claim a spot in the playoffs. The Chicago Bliss and Dallas Desire have already punched their tickets to Miami, now only two spots remain. Here’s how the teams stack up in the January Power Rankings.

1 Chicago Bliss (3-0) A championship season continues to brew in Chicago as the Bliss fine tune their game for a playoff run.

Danielle Moinet

Danielle Moinet

2 Dallas Desire (3-1) After a stunning loss in Seattle on New Year’s day, the Desire will need to get healthy and regroup. When clicking on all cylinders Dallas will be tough to beat.

Erin Marie Garrett

Erin Marie Garrett

3 Miami Caliente (2-1) Still a win away from a spot in the playoffs, the Caliente are a team that nobody wants to face right now.

Sasha Wood

Sasha Wood

4 Seattle Mist (3-1) After an impressive New Year’s Day win over the Dallas Desire, these ladies are ready to leave the chill of the Northwest for the warmth of Miami. Barring a Temptation 33-point trouncing of San Diego in the final game of the regular season, Seattle will be Miami bound.

Katie Sheaffer

Katie Sheaffer

L A Temptation (2-1) For the Temptation, a 3-1 record may not be good enough to get into the playoffs. As mentioned previously, LA will need win by 33 points in order to advance to the postseason. Look out Seduction.

Joey Davenport

Joey Davenport

6 Tampa Breeze (0-2) No team wants to start out the season with two straight losses, but this team still has a chance to get into the playoffs. A win over a last place New York squad and one more over in-state rival Miami, and they are in.

Brandyce Lee

Brandyce Lee

7 Philadelphia Passion (2-2) After much talk of Philly being the pre-season favorite to win the Eastern Conference, the Passion fell short of expectations as they could not keep up with very physical competition.

Jackie Danico

Jackie Danico

8 San Diego Seduction (0-2) A coaching carousel in SoCal led to an underachieving season for the Seduction. Now that things have settled and a staff is in place, look for big things from San Diego next season.

Jennifer Frazer

Jennifer Frazer

9 Denver Dream (0-3) A tough season for one the league’s most talented teams. Despite great effort and outstanding play at skill positions, the Dream could not get a consistant rhythm going.

Shannon Martin

Shannon Martin

10 New York Majesty (0-2) A franchise in turmoil, losing players, losing coaches and losing games. With a new coach in place and new talent aboard, the Majesty hope for much improvement next season.

Colts @Jaguars

Colts- The starters may not play the whole game, but they may not have to against the Jags.

Cowboys @ Saints

Saints- Cowboys are struggling and the Saints ain’t.

Browns @ Chiefs

Chiefs- The best of the bad matchup of the day.

Texans @ Rams

Texans- Nothing like a game against the Rams as an early Christmas gift.

Bears @ Ravens

Ravens- Speaking of gifts, Cutler may give the Ravens two or three in this one.

Packers @ Steelers

Steelers- Two streaks come to an end. Pittsburgh losing/Green Bay winning

Cardinals @ Lions

Cardinals- Lions don’t stand a chance against an angry Arizona team.

49ers @ Eagles

Eagles- Too many weapons for the Niners to defend.

Dolphins @ Titans

Dolphins- The magic is gone in Tennessee, Fish win.

Falcons @ Jets

Falcons- Atlanta finally gets things back together, a little too late though.

Patriots @ Bills

Patriots- Bills have shown flashes of greatness, not this week.

Raiders @ Broncos

Broncos- Charlie Frye? Yeah right!

Bengals @ Chargers

Chargers- Win or lose, the Bengals will have heavy thoughts on their minds. R.I.P. Chris Henry

Bucs @ Seahawks

Seahawks- Bucs are improving, just not quickly enough to win this one.

Vikings @ Panthers

Vikings- Matt has made me a believer in the Minnesota squad.

Giants @ Redskins

Giants- New York needs this one to keep playoff hopes alive. Washington is out of the playoff chase.

Joey Davenport shares her NFL ’stone cold locks’ for week 14

Joey Davenport

Posted by Matt Field

Well, better late than never. This week I am going start an NFL picks segment as I invite an athlete, friend or whoever to share their ’stone cold locks’ for the week. I have had a lot of fun with this same sort of piece over at some other sites. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts on the picks each week.

As some of you may know, I do quite a bit of work with the Lingerie Football League as the official media outlet via my blog, LFLUnlaced.com. So, this week I invited Joey Davenport of the LFL to share her week 14 NFL picks.

Joey plays for the Los Angeles Temptation and she is one hell of an athlete. She also knows a thing or ten about the NFL. In a similar segment at LFLUnlaced, Joey has the best record when called upon for her picks this season. Here’s what she has for this week.

Joey’s Week 14 NFL picks

12-3

Note: We missed the deadline for the Steelers’  Thursday night debacle.

Saints @ Falcons

Saints- The former Boilermaker cooks the Falcons. Saints roll!

Jets @ Bucs

Jets- The Jets are playing for their playoff lives. They need this one for any chance at the post-season.

Dolphins @ Jaguars

Dolphins- This team is flying high after a win over the Patriots, will continue to impress.

Bengals @ Vikings

Vikings- The Vikings will control field position and the clock for a close win.

Lions @ Ravens

Ravens- The Lions have two wins this year, no way they win number three in Baltimore.

Packers @ Bears

Packers- Green Bay will win by an even larger margin than week one.

Seahawks @ Texans

Texans- Seattle will not be able to cover Andre Johnson, Texans win.

Broncos @ Colts

Colts- Indy is still playing for home field advantage, that is not an advantage for Denver.

Panthers @ Patriots

Patriots- I would pick the angry Pats over any team this week. Poor Carolina.

Bills @ Chiefs

Chiefs- The Bills need a QB, the Chiefs are showing signs of life. KC in a snoozer.

Redskins @ Raiders

Redskins- The Skins are better than their record shows, too many close losses.

Rams @ Titans

Titans- Rams will be exhausted after chasing the league’s fastest running back all day.

Chargers @ Cowboys

Chargers- San Diego is running on all cylinders, finally. Dallas won’t keep up.

Eagles @ Giants

Giants- New York will win the battle in the trenches and will win the game.

Cardinals @ 49ers

Cardinals- Arizona isn’t going to lose an important divisional game at this point of the season.

Mortaza, Founder & Chairman. Mike Ditka added, “Football has always been a large part of my life and passion, this an opportunity to be part of something truly special in its inception phase.”
