Who would win? Colts or Saints?

Colts_helmetThe Indianapolis Colts ran their record to 14-0 on Thursday night with a 35-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. They have two games remaining (vs. New York Jets, @ Buffalo Bills) and a real shot at running the regular season table.

NFC_SaintsNot to be outdone, the New Orleans Saints sit at 13-0. Sean Payton’s crew will host the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday hoping to equal the Colts’ record. The Saints then go on to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before facing the Panthers in Carolina to end the regular season.

The sounds you hear at the moment are the minds of NFL and TV Executives collectively being blown. The possibility of two 16-0 teams heading into the playoffs and, dare we even think it, two undefeated teams facing off in the Super Bowl. Just imagine the marketing potential for the NFL in that scenario. Is there any live sporting event viewer record that would not be broken on February 7, 2010?

Hopes aside, the reality of the situation is this, winning regular season games is never a sure thing and playoff games even less so. The Colts and Saints have to deal with the opposition on the field, injury issues, the various curses and general bad mojo being sent their way by the 1972 Miami Dolphins and a myriad of other factors. In short, perfection isn’t easy.

There is also the question of resting your players to be in better shape heading into the playoffs or trying to do it all.

If they both end up 16-0, they still need to win two playoff games for a trip to the Super Bowl and a shot at being the last team standing. That is a lot to ask.

There is no telling if the future will hold a Perfection Bowl match-up in Miami where two clubs would battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but we can dream. With that in mind we get to this week’s question of superiority… which team, Colts or Saints, would come out on top in a contest at a neutral site and why?

Now it is up to you. Leave a comment below. Saints or Colts?

Saints. They have a better supporting cast, offensively and defensively. Of course, their record is slightly aided by the fact that they are in the same division as the Bucs and Panthers, whom they play twice.

Colts. They haven’t lost.

colts defiantly
